The mid century Danish furniture movement took the world by storm. Danish designers like Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Børge Mogensen and Finn Juhl designed furniture with an artistry unrivalled in the 20th century.
With the advent of mass production in the early 20th century the demand for skilled furniture craftsmen came under threat. Determined to maintain their rich traditions and high skill levels, the 400 year old Danish Cabinetmakers Guild initiated a yearly furniture exhibition where they would foster old traditions, whilst innovatively creating products for the new modernist lifestyle.
The key to success was a collaboration with bold young designers, and together they created masterful furniture pieces that have all the hallmarks of Danish design - elegance, exquisite craftmanship, innovation and the classic Scandinavian line.
Made to last a lifetime and longer, these vintage furniture pieces are highly coveted collectables, many of which grace museums around the world. |
