Danish VINTAGE FURNITURE |
Danish designers, working closely with craftsmen, intimately understood the natural qualities and potential of different wood varieties, woven cord or cane, fabrics and leather. Danish furniture pieces are known for the unvarnished, natural soap and oil finishes that communicate directly and sensually to the touch. The rich history, patina and longevity of these original Danish vintage furniture pieces is a testament to the Danish design and craft traditions.
The innovative breakthrough in the machining of teak, at the insistance of Danish design great Finn Juhl, led Danish furniture maker France and Son to start a world wide trend in teak furniture production.
Innovation in designs led to a lightness and elegance that came to be the hallmark of Scandinavian furniture.
With the advent of new materials Danish innovation led the design world with the designs of Verner Panton, among others, who designed the first single form chair from polyurethane.
Since 1995 Danish Modern has been bringing to Australia a remarkable selection of vintage furniture pieces from the great Danish design movement of the mid 20th century, with hand crafted lounge chairs, sofas, dining chairs, tables, desks and storage systems. |
